यन्तुं नात्मा शक््यते पौरुषेण मानेन वीर्येण च तात नद्धः । न ते वाचो भीमसेनाभ्यसूये मन्ये तथा तद् भवितव्यमासीत्,तात भीमसेन! किसी विषयमें आसक्त हुए चित्तको पुरुषार्थ, अभिमान अथवा पराक्रमसे नहीं रोका जा सकता (अर्थात्र उसे रोकना बहुत ही कठिन है), अतः मैं तुम्हारी बातोंके लिये बुरा नहीं मानता। मैं समझता हूँ, वैसी ही भवितव्यता थी
yantuṁ nātmā śakyate pauruṣeṇa mānena vīryeṇa ca tāta naddhaḥ | na te vāco bhīmasenābhyasūye manye tathā tad bhavitavyam āsīt ||
Yudhiṣṭhira berkata: “Saudaraku, Bhīmasena! Bila batin telah terbelenggu oleh keterikatan, ia tak dapat ditarik mundur hanya dengan usaha manusia—bukan pula oleh kebanggaan, bahkan tidak oleh keberanian. Karena itu aku tidak tersinggung oleh kata-katamu. Aku percaya, demikianlah takdir harus terjadi.”
युधिछिर उवाच
When the mind is seized by attachment, mere exertion, pride, or even heroic strength may fail to restrain it; therefore one should respond with patience rather than resentment, recognizing the force of circumstance and destiny.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Bhīma affectionately, saying he does not blame him for his harsh or urgent words; he explains that a mind caught in attachment is hard to check and concludes that what occurred was in accordance with what had to happen.
