सत्यवानुवाच पित्राहमभ्यनुज्ञात: सावित्रीसहितो गतः । अथ मे<भूच्छिरोदु:खं वने काष्ठानि भिन्दतः,सत्यवान् बोले--मैं पिताकी आज्ञा पाकर सावित्रीके साथ वनमें गया। फिर वनमें लकड़ियोंको चीरते समय मेरे सिरमें बड़े जोरसे दर्द होने लगा
satyavān uvāca: pitrāham abhyanujñātaḥ sāvitrīsahito gataḥ | atha me 'bhūc chiroduḥkhaṃ vane kāṣṭhāni bhindataḥ ||
Satyavān berkata: “Dengan izin ayahku, aku pergi ke hutan bersama Sāvitrī. Lalu, ketika membelah kayu bakar di rimba, tiba-tiba timbul nyeri yang sangat hebat di kepalaku.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse underscores dharma expressed as respectful obedience and transparency within family life (seeking the father’s consent), while also setting up the ethical backdrop for Sāvitrī’s steadfast companionship—devotion that remains present even as suffering and destiny begin to unfold.
Satyavān reports that, after receiving his father’s permission, he went into the forest with Sāvitrī. While splitting wood there, he is suddenly afflicted by intense head pain—an ominous sign that anticipates the crisis central to the Sāvitrī–Satyavān story.
