मार्कण्डेय उवाच

Mārkaṇḍeya

Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes ethical decision-making in marriage: personal choice is acknowledged, yet the guardian/elder undertakes careful deliberation before formally granting the marriage, balancing individual desire with responsible oversight.

Mārkaṇḍeya tells a young woman that she should identify the man she wishes to marry and introduce him; he will then reflect and arrange the marriage accordingly, inviting her to choose the groom she desires.
