Waiśampāyana berkata: “Wahai raja, karena engkau berketetapan menjalani puasa sampai mati, saudara-saudaramu tenggelam dalam duka dan putus asa. Cukuplah—tiada guna membuat mereka semua menderita, wahai penguasa manusia. Semoga baik bagimu. Bangkitlah, pergilah, dan teguhkan hati saudara-saudaramu.”

Educational Q&A

A ruler’s personal despair should not become a cause of suffering for dependents; dharma here emphasizes restraint from self-destructive vows when they harm others, and the duty to console and sustain one’s family.

The narrator reports an admonition to a king who has undertaken prāya (a fast unto death). Because his decision has plunged his brothers into grief, he is urged to abandon the resolve, rise, go to them, and reassure them.
