यदा रुद्ररथं क्रुद्धो महिष: सहसा गत: । रेसतू रोदसी गाढं मुमुहुश्च महर्षय:,जब क्रोधमें भरे हुए महिषासुरने सहसा भगवान्‌ रुद्रके रथपर आक्रमण किया, उस समय पृथ्वी और आकाशमें भारी कोलाहल मच गया और महर्षिगण भी घबरा गये

yadā rudra-rathaṁ kruddho mahiṣaḥ sahasā gataḥ | resatū rodasī gāḍhaṁ mumuhuś ca maharṣayaḥ ||

Mārkaṇḍeya berkata: Ketika sang raksasa-kerbau, diliputi amarah, tiba-tiba menerjang kereta Rudra, bumi dan langit bergemuruh oleh hiruk-pikuk yang dahsyat, dan para maharṣi pun terguncang oleh rasa gentar.
