Educational Q&A

Legitimate sovereignty is defined by protection: the worthiness to be ‘Indra’ (leader) is grounded in restoring abhaya—security and freedom from fear—for all realms under one’s care.

Markandeya addresses a supreme deity/hero as ‘best of the gods’ and formally affirms his right to the title and role of Indra, because he has re-established safety for the worlds; he is charged to continue as the protector who dispels fear across the three worlds.
