Book 3, Chapter 23
पितेव पुत्रेषु स तेषु भावं चक्रे कुरूणामृषभो महात्मा । ते चापि तस्मिन् भरतप्रबर्हे तदा बभूवुः पितरीव पुत्रा: ७ ।। जैसे पिताका अपने पुत्रोंपर वात्सल्यभाव होता है, उसी प्रकार कुरुश्रेष्ठ महात्मा युधिष्ठिरने उन सबके प्रति अपने आन्तरिक स्नेहका परिचय दिया। वे भी उन भरतश्रेष्ठ युधिष्ठिरके प्रति वैसे ही अनुरक्त थे, जैसे पुत्र अपने पितापर
pitā iva putreṣu sa teṣu bhāvaṃ cakre kurūṇām ṛṣabho mahātmā | te cāpi tasmin bharataprabṛhe tadā babhūvuḥ pitarīva putrāḥ || 7 ||
Seperti kasih sayang lembut seorang ayah kepada putra-putranya, demikianlah Yudhiṣṭhira yang berhati agung—yang utama di antara para Kuru—menunjukkan perhatian tulus kepada mereka. Dan mereka pun, pada gilirannya, berbakti kepada sang banteng keturunan Bharata itu, mengasihinya sebagaimana anak-anak mengasihi ayahnya.
