Adhyāya 160: Dikpāla-Cosmography and the Sun’s Kālacakra (दिक्पाल-विश्ववर्णनम् तथा आदित्यस्य कालचक्रम्)
कच्चित् ते गुरव: सर्वे वृद्धा वैद्याश्न पूजिता: । कच्चिन्न कुरुषे भावं पार्थ पापेषु कर्मसु,“क्या तुमने समस्त गुरुजनों, बड़े-बूढ़ों और विद्वानोंका सदा समादर किया है? पार्थ! कभी पापकर्मामें तो तुम्हारी रुचि नहीं होती?
kaccit te guravaḥ sarve vṛddhā vaidyāś ca pūjitāḥ | kaccin na kuruṣe bhāvaṃ pārtha pāpeṣu karmasu ||
Waiśampāyana berkata: “Apakah engkau telah memuliakan semua gurumu, para sesepuh, dan tabib yang berilmu sebagaimana mestinya? Dan, wahai Pārtha, apakah engkau tidak membiarkan batinmu condong pada perbuatan dosa?”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes dharmic conduct through two tests of character: honoring those worthy of reverence (teachers, elders, and learned professionals) and maintaining inner restraint so the mind does not incline toward sinful action.
Vaiśampāyana, in a sequence of concerned inquiries, addresses Pārtha (Arjuna), asking whether he has maintained proper social and moral duties—showing respect to revered figures and avoiding attraction to wrongdoing.
