अन्य: कृतयुगे कालस्त्रेतायां द्वापरे पर: । अयं प्रध्वंसन: कालो नाद्य तद् रूपमस्ति मे,'सत्ययुगका समय दूसरा था तथा त्रेता और द्वापरका दूसरा ही है। यह काल सभी वस्तुओंको नष्ट करनेवाला है। अब मेरा वह रूप है ही नहीं। पृथ्वी, नदी, वृक्ष, पर्वत, सिद्ध, देवता और महर्षि--ये सभी कालका अनुसरण करते हैं। प्रत्येक युगके अनुसार सभी वस्तुओंके शरीर, बल और प्रभावमें न्यूनाधिकता होती रहती है। अतः कुरुश्रेष्ठ] तुम उस स्वरूपको देखनेका आग्रह न करो। मैं भी युगका अनुसरण करता हूँ; क्योंकि कालका उल्लंघन करना किसीके लिये भी अत्यन्त कठिन है”
anyaḥ kṛtayuge kālas tretāyāṃ dvāpare paraḥ | ayaṃ pradhvaṃsanaḥ kālo nādya tad rūpam asti me ||
“Waktu pada Kṛta-yuga berbeda, pada Tretā berbeda, dan pada Dvāpara pun berbeda lagi. Waktu yang sekarang ini bersifat memusnahkan; kini aku tak lagi memiliki wujud yang dahulu itu.”

The verse teaches that all beings and even exalted entities are governed by Kāla (Time). Each yuga has its own conditions, so forms, strength, and influence change accordingly; one should not demand what belongs to a different age, nor presume to transcend Time.
A speaker (reported by Vaiśaṃpāyana) explains to a Kuru noble that the present age is different from earlier yugas and is more destructive; therefore the speaker cannot display an earlier, more glorious form and advises the listener not to insist, since everyone must follow Time.
