एकवेदस्य चाज्ञानाद्‌ वेदास्ते बहव: कृता: । सत्त्वस्य चेह विश्रंशात्‌ सत्ये कश्चिदवस्थित:,द्वापरमें सम्पूर्ण एक वेदका भी ज्ञान न होनेसे वेदके बहुत-से विभाग कर लिये गये हैं। इस युगमें सात्त्विक बुद्धिका क्षय होनेसे कोई विरला ही सत्यमें स्थित होता है

ekavedasya cājñānād vedās te bahavaḥ kṛtāḥ | sattvasya ceha viśraṃśāt satye kaścid avasthitaḥ ||

Karena Veda yang satu tidak dipahami sepenuhnya, ia pun dibagi menjadi banyak Veda. Dan pada zaman ini, ketika kejernihan sattva merosot, hanya orang yang sangat jarang tetap teguh dalam kebenaran.
