समाश्रयं समाचारं समज्ञानं च केवलम्‌ । तदा हि समकर्माणो वर्णा धर्मानवाप्तुवन्‌,उस समय परब्रह्म परमात्मा ही सबके एकमात्र आश्रय थे। उन्हींकी प्राप्तिके लिये सदाचारका पालन किया जाता था। सब लोग एक परमात्माका ही ज्ञान प्राप्त करते थे। सभी वर्णोके मनुष्य परब्रह्म परमात्माके उद्देश्यसे ही समस्त सत्कर्मोंका अनुष्ठान करते थे और इस प्रकार उन्हें उत्तम धर्म-फलकी प्राप्ति होती थी

samāśrayaṃ samācāraṃ samajñānaṃ ca kevalam | tadā hi samakarmāṇo varṇā dharmānavāptuvan ||

Bhima berkata: “Pada zaman purba itu, Brahman Tertinggi semata menjadi satu-satunya perlindungan bagi semua. Demi mencapai-Nya, manusia menegakkan tata laku yang benar; mereka mencari hanya pengetahuan tunggal, tak terbagi, tentang Yang Mahatinggi. Maka orang-orang dari segala varṇa, menjalankan kewajiban mereka dengan jiwa yang seimbang dan selaras, memperoleh buah-buah dharma.”
