त्वामग्ने जलदानाहुर्विद्युतश्च मनीषिण: । दहन्ति सर्वभूतानि त्वत्तो निष्क्रम्य हेतय:,अग्निदेव! मनीषी पुरुष आपको ही मेघ और विद्युत् कहते हैं। आपसे ही ज्वालाएँ निकलकर सम्पूर्ण भूतोंको दग्ध करती हैं
tvām agne jaladān āhur vidyutaś ca manīṣiṇaḥ | dahanti sarvabhūtāni tvatto niṣkramya hetayaḥ ||
Wahai Dewa Agni, para bijak menyebut engkau sebagai awan pembawa hujan dan sebagai kilat. Dari engkau memancar lidah-lidah api yang, ketika menerjang keluar, membakar segenap makhluk hidup.
शल्य उवाच
The verse highlights Agni’s all-pervading, transformative energy: the same divine force is perceived as cloud and lightning and manifests as flames that can consume all beings. Ethically, it underscores reverence for power—recognizing that elemental force must be approached with discernment, since it can nourish or destroy.
Śalya is speaking in praise of Agni, identifying him with natural phenomena (cloud and lightning) and describing how destructive flames emerge from him to burn beings. The speech functions as a stuti-like acknowledgment of Agni’s might within the Udyoga Parva context.
