Bhīṣma’s Appointment as Commander-in-Chief
Krishna emphasizes discernment and moral clarity: instead of dwelling on inflammatory details, one should grasp the essential ethical point—when an opponent acts without fairness, recognize the breach of dharma and respond with steadiness rather than fixation on harsh words.
Krishna, speaking in the Udyoga Parva context of negotiations and rising tension, declines to repeat at length the Kaurava’s statements and summarizes their import: the Kaurava side is not behaving justly toward the addressed person, indicating a breakdown of fair dealing that pushes the situation toward open conflict.
