भीष्मद्रोणयोर्दुर्योधनं प्रति शान्त्युपदेशः | Bhīṣma and Droṇa’s Counsel to Duryodhana for Pacification
“तात! भगवान् श्रीकृष्णको मध्यस्थ बनाकर अब शान्ति धारण करो। मैं तुम्हारे लिये यही समयोचित कर्तव्य मानता हूँ। दुर्योधन! तुम मेरी इस आज्ञाका उल्लंघन न करो ।।
tāta! bhagavān śrīkṛṣṇako madhyastha banākara aba śānti dhāraṇa karo. ahaṃ tumhāre liye yahī samayocita kartavya mānatā hūṃ. duryodhana! tuma merī isa ājñākā ullanghana na karo. || śamaṃ ced yācamānas tvaṃ pratyākhyāsyasi keśavam | tvadartham abhijalpantaṃ na tavāsty aparābhavaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Wahai anakku, jadikan Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa sebagai penengah dan kini terimalah damai. Aku menilai inilah kewajibanmu yang tepat pada waktunya. Duryodhana, jangan melanggar perintahku. Jika, ketika Keśava memohon perdamaian, engkau menolaknya—padahal ia berbicara demi kebaikanmu sendiri—maka bagimu tiada akhir selain kekalahan.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Timely acceptance of wise mediation and peace is a dharmic duty; rejecting well-intentioned counsel—especially from a righteous mediator like Kṛṣṇa—invites inevitable ruin born of obstinacy and pride.
In Udyoga Parva’s lead-up to war, Vaiśampāyana reports an admonition to Duryodhana: let Kṛṣṇa act as mediator and accept peace; if Duryodhana spurns Kṛṣṇa’s peace-plea made for his own good, defeat will be unavoidable.
