Udyoga Parva Adhyāya 103: Garuḍa’s Protest, Viṣṇu’s Demonstration, and Counsel Toward Śama
पौत्रस्यार्थे भवांस्तस्माद् गुणकेशीं प्रतीच्छतु । सदृशीं प्रतिरूपस्य वासवस्य शचीमिव,अतः आप अपने पौत्रके लिये गुणकेशीको स्वीकार करें। जैसे इन्द्रके अनुरूप शची हैं, उसी प्रकार आपके सुयोग्य पौत्रके योग्य गुणकेशी है
pautrasyārthe bhavāṁs tasmād guṇakeśīṁ pratīcchatu | sadṛśīṁ pratirūpasya vāsavasya śacīm iva ||
Nārada berkata: “Karena itu, demi cucumu, terimalah Guṇakeśī. Sebagaimana Śacī adalah pasangan yang sepadan bagi Vāsava (Indra), demikian pula Guṇakeśī adalah mempelai yang layak bagi cucumu yang patut dan elok rupawan.”
नारद उवाच
A family elder should act for the welfare of descendants by accepting a suitable alliance; appropriateness (sadṛśatā) and merit are emphasized over hesitation, using the ideal divine pairing of Indra and Śacī as a standard of compatibility.
Nārada is advising an elder to consent to Guṇakeśī as a bride for his grandson, arguing that she is an apt match—just as Śacī is perfectly suited to Indra—thereby urging a decision aligned with familial responsibility and social propriety.
