अरण्यवृत्ति-वैराग्योपदेशः | Forest Discipline and the Program of Non-Attachment
गमने निरपेक्षश्न पश्चादनवलोकयन् | ऋजु: प्रणिहितो गच्छंस्त्रसं स्थावरवर्जक:
gamane nirapekṣaḥ san paścād anavalokayan | ṛjuḥ praṇihito gacchaṁs trasaṁ sthāvara-varjakaḥ ||
Dalam perjalananku aku akan tanpa harap dan tanpa tujuan khusus. Aku tidak akan menoleh ke belakang. Dengan lurus dan menahan diri, kutegakkan perhatian ke dalam; dan sambil melangkah aku akan berhati-hati agar tidak mencelakai makhluk yang bergerak maupun yang tak bergerak.
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse teaches disciplined detachment and non-violence: one should move through life without craving outcomes, without clinging to past or future, keeping the mind inwardly steady, and taking care not to harm any form of life—whether moving or stationary.
Yudhiṣṭhira articulates a resolve about how he will proceed: he will depart without personal agenda, not look back, maintain upright simplicity and inner focus, and walk with careful restraint so that his movement does not injure living beings.
