Atithi’s Direction to the Nāga-sage Padma at Naimiṣa (अतिथ्युपदेशः—नैमिषे पद्मनागोपाख्यानप्रस्तावः)
अथ विश्वरूपं नन्दनवनमुपगतं मातोवाच पुत्र कि परपक्षवर्धनस्त्वं मातुलपक्षं नाशयसि नार्हस्येवं कर्तुमिति स विश्वरूपो मातुर्वाक्यमनतिक्रमणीयमिति मत्वा सम्पूज्य हिरण्यकशिपुमगात्
atha viśvarūpaṃ nandanavanam upagataṃ mātovāca—putra kiṃ parapakṣa-vardhanas tvaṃ mātula-pakṣaṃ nāśayasi? nārhasi evaṃ kartum iti. sa viśvarūpo mātur vākyaṃ anatikramaṇīyam iti matvā sampūjya hiraṇyakaśipum agāt.
Suatu ketika, ketika Viśvarūpa telah pergi ke hutan Nandana, ibunya berkata kepadanya, “Anakku, mengapa engkau menguatkan pihak lawan dan menghancurkan pihak paman dari garis ibu? Engkau tidak patut bertindak demikian.” Menganggap kata-kata ibunya tak boleh dilanggar, Viśvarūpa menghormatinya dengan takzim, berpamitan, lalu pergi sendiri menghadap Hiraṇyakaśipu.
अजुन उवाच
A parent’s instruction is presented as ‘anatikramaṇīya’—not to be overstepped—showing filial duty as a strong dharmic obligation, even when it clashes with one’s political or factional alignments.
Viśvarūpa is confronted by his mother in Nandana-grove; she reproaches him for aiding an opposing faction and harming his maternal uncle’s side. Accepting her command as binding, he honors her and then departs to meet Hiraṇyakaśipu.
