Kuṇḍadhāra-Upākhyāna: Dharma’s Superiority over Wealth and Desire
सम्यक् चेदमुपालब्धो धर्मश्नोक्त: सनातन: । तस्य विख्यातवीर्यस्य श्रुत्वा वाक्यानि स द्विज:
samyak cedam upālabdho dharmaśnoktāḥ sanātanaḥ | tasya vikhyātavīryasya śrutvā vākyāni sa dvijaḥ ||
Bhishma berkata: “Demikianlah Dharma yang abadi itu dipahami dengan tepat dan dijelaskan dengan terang. Mendengar kata-kata orang yang termasyhur dan berdaya itu, sang brahmana memahami maksudnya dengan baik dan menyimpannya dalam hati.”
भीष्म उवाच
That sanātana-dharma (the perennial moral order) can be clearly articulated and, more importantly, truly understood when the listener grasps the speaker’s intended meaning and internalizes it—dharma is not merely heard but realized.
In Bhishma’s recounting, Tulādhāra has delivered an excellent discourse on various matters, including eternal dharma. The brahmin Jājali listens to Tulādhāra’s renowned words and comprehends their purport deeply.
