Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the dharmic value of tīrthas: sacred places gain authority through remembered tradition and shared belief, guiding people toward purification, restraint, and reverence for holy geography.

Vaiśaṃpāyana explains why a particular pilgrimage site is called ‘Saptasārasvata’: it is famed because seven Sarasvatī streams are said to have converged there, making it a celebrated tīrtha.
