Educational Q&A

As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it frames the episode within the dharmic-political project of establishing legitimate sovereignty. By locating Bhīma’s conquests inside the Digvijaya undertaken for Yudhiṣṭhira’s imperial rite, it implicitly highlights the ethical tension between forceful expansion and the ideal of righteous rule.

The verse signals the conclusion of the chapter describing Bhīma’s portion of the Digvijaya (campaign to subdue regions in the quarters). It functions as an editorial/narrative marker: the Bhīma-digvijaya segment in Sabhā Parva’s Digvijaya section has reached the end of its twenty-ninth chapter.
