When many fear-indicating portents arise, they function as moral and karmic warnings: inner agitation is not random but a sign that destructive consequences are ripening, urging vigilance and restraint.
Vaiśampāyana reports to the king that numerous ominous signs are appearing. The atmosphere is charged with foreboding, preparing the listener for the impending calamity described in the Mausala Parva.
