Even in a war setting, the narrative foregrounds reverence for Vedic learning and the moral weight of elders. A king’s strength is shown not only by martial power but by seeking and honoring dharmic counsel from those grounded in śāstra and age-tested wisdom.
Sañjaya describes the king moving past the second guarded precinct of the camp and entering further inside, where he sees venerable Brahmin sages—elder Veda-knowers—assembled, indicating a moment of consultation or encounter with religious and ethical authorities.
