किमर्थ च विषादस्ते तद्‌ ब्रूहि द्विपदां वर । न शोच्यं विदुषां श्रेष्ठ शोक: कार्यविनाशन:,“मनुष्योंमें श्रेष्ठ अर्जुन! बताओ तो सही, तुम्हें किसलिये विषाद हो रहा है? विद्वद्वर! तुम्हें शोक नहीं करना चाहिये; क्योंकि शोक समस्त कर्मोंका विनाश करनेवाला है

kimarthaṃ ca viṣādas te tad brūhi dvipadāṃ vara | na śocyaṃ viduṣāṃ śreṣṭha śokaḥ kārya-vināśanaḥ ||

Sañjaya berkata: “Wahai yang terbaik di antara manusia, katakanlah, karena sebab apakah kemurungan ini menimpamu? Wahai yang utama di antara para bijak, engkau tak patut larut dalam duka—sebab duka merusak daya untuk bertindak dan menggugurkan pekerjaan yang harus diselesaikan.”
