Abhimanyu advances toward Droṇa’s host
अभिमन्यो वरं तात याचतां दातुमर्हसि । पितृणां मातुलानां च सैन्यानां चैव सर्वश:,“तात अभिमन्यु! तुम्हारे पिता और मामाके पक्षके समस्त योद्धा तथा सम्पूर्ण सैनिक तुमसे याचना कर रहे हैं। तुम्हीं इन्हें वर देनेके योग्य हो
abhimanyo varaṃ tāta yācatāṃ dātum arhasi | pitṝṇāṃ mātulānāṃ ca sainyānāṃ caiva sarvaśaḥ ||
Wahai Abhimanyu yang terkasih, sanak keluargamu dari pihak ayah dan pihak paman dari garis ibu, bahkan seluruh bala tentara dari segala penjuru, memohon kepadamu; dan engkaulah yang layak menganugerahkan karunia kepada mereka.
संजय उवाच
Even in the violence of battle, ethical language and social bonds remain operative: a warrior’s excellence creates moral authority, and requests are framed through dharma—worthiness (arhatā), kinship duties, and responsibility toward the wider host.
Sañjaya reports an address to Abhimanyu, portraying him as someone from whom paternal relatives, maternal-uncles’ side, and the broader soldiery are seeking a ‘boon’—a favor or concession—highlighting his stature and the collective dependence on his decision or prowess.
