Educational Q&A

Even the mightiest can be overcome by jealousy and anger; true lordship is the power to restrain violence and re-establish dharma. The scene teaches humility before the supreme and the ethical necessity of self-control.

After Indra is provoked and attempts to strike a mysterious child with the vajra, Śiva (the all-pervading Lord) halts him by immobilizing his arm. This verse states the immediate result: Indra stands with his arm frozen, surrounded by the assembled gods.
