The verse stresses the ethical weight of lineage and reputation: a person who disgraces the family can cause collective loss of honor, implying that adharma is not merely personal but socially contagious, bringing long-term consequences to one’s kin and community.
Sañjaya delivers a harsh condemnation, calling someone a 'stain upon the family' and stating that, by coming into contact with such a person, the relatives are deprived of good fame and are metaphorically (or karmically) pulled toward ruin.
