Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how collective action in war becomes publicly manifest and irreversible: the unified roar of instruments, elephants, and bows embodies resolve and the kṣatriya-world’s sense of duty, while also hinting at the moral weight of choices that now move from intention to violent reality.

Sañjaya reports to the king that the battlefield erupted in a sky-reaching din—conches and drums sounding together, elephants trumpeting, and bows twanging as they are drawn—marking the armies’ mobilization and the intensification of combat in the Droṇa Parva.
