The verse highlights how past deeds and enmities continue to shape present conflict: recalling earlier killings becomes a moral and emotional lens through which the war is interpreted, stressing the long consequences of violence and the pull of kinship-based grievance.
Sañjaya reminds King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīmasena had previously slain the rākṣasas Hiḍimba, Baka, and Kirmīra—whom the speaker calls ‘my relatives’—invoking those events as background to the present hostilities in the war.
