सूत उवाच
The verse highlights the moral and psychological consequence of war: a leader who pursues destructive ambition may only recognize the cost—loss of his best men—when it is irreversible, leading to paścāttāpa (late remorse).
The narrator (Sūta) reports a warrior’s boast or prediction: after many leading fighters are felled by his arrows, Duryodhana will witness the devastation in his ranks and fall into deep regret.
