Bhīṣma checks Bhīmasena; matched engagements intensify
na ca me krośatas tāta śrutavān asi vai purā | tad idaṃ samanupprāptaṃ yat pāṇḍūn avamanyase, tāta ||
Ignoring wise counsel and persisting in contempt toward the righteous leads to inevitable consequences; disrespect (avamāna) toward the Pandavas is framed as an ethical fault whose karmic result now ripens.
On the battlefield context of Bhishma Parva, Bhishma addresses the Kaurava side (implicitly Duryodhana), reminding him that earlier warnings were not heeded, and that the present calamity is the direct outcome of his long-standing insult and hostility toward the Pandavas.
