इस प्रकार श्रीमह्मा भारत भीष्मपर्वके अन्तर्गत जम्बूण्डविनिर्माणपर्वमें सैन्यशिक्षणविषयक पहला अध्याय पूरा हुआ

vaiśampāyana uvāca

tataḥ pūrvāpare sainye samīkṣya bhagavān ṛṣiḥ |

sarvavedavidāṃ śreṣṭho vyāsaḥ satyavatīsutaḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Kemudian Bhagavān Ṛṣi Vyāsa, putra Satyavatī, yang utama di antara para pemaham Veda, setelah meninjau kedua bala tentara yang berhadap-hadapan di sisi timur dan barat, seakan melihat dengan jelas akibat perang dahsyat yang akan datang, bersiap menuju Raja Dhṛtarāṣṭra, putra Vicitravīrya.”
