Kurukṣetra Campaign in Summary
देवगन्धर्वा ऊचु: साधक: सर्वरधर्माणामसुराणां विनाशक: । त्वं स्रष्टा सृज्यमाधारं कारणं धर्मवेदवित् ।।
devagandharvā ūcuḥ—sādhakaḥ sarvadharmāṇām asurāṇāṁ vināśakaḥ | tvaṁ sraṣṭā sṛjyam ādhāraṁ kāraṇaṁ dharmavedavit || tvayā yat kriyate deva na jānīmo ’tra māyayā | kevalaṁ tvābhijānīmaḥ śaraṇaṁ parameśvaram || brahmādīnāṁ ca govinda sānnidhyaṁ śaraṇaṁ namaḥ || vaiśampāyana uvāca—iti stute ’mānuṣaiś ca pūjite devakīsute | śakrasadṛśapratīkāśo babhūva sa hi śailarāṭ ||
Para dewa dan para Gandharwa berkata: “Wahai Bhagavan! Engkaulah pelaksana segala dharma dan pemusnah para Asura. Engkaulah Sang Pencipta; engkaulah pula dunia yang tercipta, dan engkaulah penopangnya. Engkaulah sebab segala sesuatu, pengenal Dharma dan Weda. Wahai Dewa, apa pun yang Engkau lakukan melalui māyā-Mu, kami tak mampu memahaminya di sini; kami hanya mengenal Engkau—perlindungan tertinggi, Tuhan Yang Mahatinggi. Wahai Govinda, bahkan Brahmā dan para dewa lainnya pun Engkau anugerahi kedekatan dengan-Mu dan naungan. Sembah sujud bagi-Mu.” Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Ketika demikianlah putra Devakī (Kṛṣṇa) dipuji dan dipuja oleh makhluk-makhluk bukan manusia—para dewa dan Gandharwa—maka raja gunung Raivataka tampak bersinar laksana kediaman surgawi Indra.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The passage teaches śaraṇāgati (taking refuge): even exalted celestial beings confess the limits of their understanding before the Lord’s māyā and affirm Kṛṣṇa as the creator, the created order, its support, and the ultimate knower of Dharma and the Vedas—hence the supreme refuge.
Devas and Gandharvas offer a hymn of praise to Kṛṣṇa (Devakī’s son). As they worship him, the narrator Vaiśampāyana describes the setting—Mount Raivataka—becoming radiant, appearing like Indra’s heavenly abode, highlighting the divine presence and its transformative splendor.
