As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction but through framing: it emphasizes orderly closure and purposeful transition. The movement toward the Gaṅgā suggests an ethical turn toward purification, remembrance, and dharmic action in a sacred setting, consistent with the Āśramavāsika theme of withdrawal from power and reorientation toward spiritual duty.
The text is concluding the thirty-first chapter of the Putradarśana section within the Āśramavāsika Parva. It states that the chapter’s subject is the going of all to the bank of the Gaṅgā, and marks that this chapter is now complete.
