Mataṅga–Śakra Dialogue on Tapas, Status, and Moral Qualities
Inner discipline and purification—symbolized by bathing in the pure waters of the Gaṅgā with a controlled mind—can yield greater spiritual merit than the mere accumulation of many external rituals such as a hundred sacrifices.
A Siddha (accomplished sage) is instructing about the relative power of sacred bathing and self-restraint, asserting that the merit gained by purified, disciplined persons through Gaṅgā-snān is incomparable even to extensive sacrificial performance.
