Anuśāsana-parva 17
तानि निर्मथ्य मनसा दध्नो घृतमिवोद्धृतम् । प्रपितामह ब्रह्माजीने जो दस हजार नाम बताये थे, उन््हींको मनरूपी मथानीसे मथकर मथे हुए दहीसे घीकी भाँति यह सहख्रनामस्तोत्र निकाला गया है ।।
tāni nirmathya manasā dadhno ghṛtam ivoddhṛtam | gireḥ sāraṃ yathā hema puṣpasāraṃ yathā madhu ||
Dengan mengaduk (nama-nama purba itu) dalam batin—laksana ghee diangkat dari dadih—terhimpunlah kidung sahasranāma ini. Inilah sari: seperti emas adalah inti yang ditarik dari batuan tambang, dan seperti madu adalah inti yang dipetik dari bunga-bunga.
वायुदेव उवाच
Sacred knowledge becomes most potent when mentally ‘churned’—i.e., contemplated and internalized—so that its concentrated essence (here, the sahasranāma) emerges, comparable to ghee from curd, gold from ore, and honey from flowers.
Vāyudeva explains that the thousand-name hymn has been extracted from earlier divine names/teachings through focused mental churning, emphasizing that this stotra is a distilled, authoritative essence meant for devotion and dharmic orientation.
