Adhyāya 152 — Bhīṣma’s Authorization for Yudhiṣṭhira’s Return to the Capital (नगरप्रवेशानुज्ञा)

जो सब प्रकारसे समर्थ होकर भी दूसरोंसे पूछता तथा उन्हें सम्मान देता है और जिसके मनमें कभी दुष्टता नहीं आती, वह मनुष्य निस्संदेह पण्डित कहलाता है ।।

jñāna-vijñāna-sampannān ūhāpohaviśāradān | pravaktūn pṛcchate yo 'nyān sa vai nāpadam ṛcchati ||

Maheshvara bersabda: “Orang yang, meski sepenuhnya mampu, tetap bertanya kepada orang lain, memuliakan mereka, dan tak pernah membiarkan niat jahat timbul dalam batinnya—dialah yang sungguh layak disebut orang berilmu. Ia yang kaya pengetahuan dan pemahaman yang teruji, mahir menimbang berbagai kemungkinan, serta menanyakan keraguannya kepada beragam guru dan pembicara yang cakap, tidak akan jatuh ke dalam malapetaka. Di balairung, yang bijaksana berbicara dengan pertimbangan; sedangkan yang angkuh berbicara lain—menampakkan kelemahan dan ketidakteguhan.”
