Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
सा नियुक्ता पितुर्गेहे ब्राह्मणातिथिपूजने । उग्र॑ पर्यचरद् घोरें ब्राह्मणं संशितव्रतम्
sā niyuktā pitur gehe brāhmaṇātithipūjane | ugraṁ paryacarad ghore brāhmaṇaṁ saṁśitavratam ||
Waiśampāyana berkata: Ketika tinggal di rumah ayahnya, Pṛthā ditugasi memuliakan para brāhmaṇa dan menyambut para tamu. Pada suatu ketika ia dengan tekun melayani seorang resi brāhmaṇa yang keras laku tapanya, berwatak garang dan menggetarkan.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Dharma is shown through unwavering hospitality and respectful service, even when the guest is difficult or intimidating; ethical conduct is measured by steadiness, not convenience.
Pṛthā, assigned to receive and honor brāhmaṇas and guests in her father’s house, attends upon a fierce, austere sage (known as Durvāsā in the surrounding narrative) and strives to satisfy him through diligent service.
