Adhyāya 123 — Droṇa’s Pedagogy: Arjuna’s Preeminence, Ekalavya’s Self-Training, and the Bhāsa-Lakṣya Trial
तथा महर्षयश्चापि जेपुस्तत्र समन््ततः । गन्धर्वें: सहित: श्रीमान् प्रागायत च तुम्बुरु:
tathā maharṣayaś cāpi jepus tatra samantataḥ | gandharvaiḥ sahitaḥ śrīmān prāgāyat ca tumburuḥ ||
Demikian pula para resi agung berdiri mengelilingi tempat itu dan mulai melantunkan mantra-mantra keberkahan. Dan Tumburu yang mulia, bersama para Gandharwa, mulai bernyanyi dengan suara yang manis.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how sacred sound—mantra-recitation by seers and harmonious music by Gandharvas—creates an auspicious, dharmic setting. It suggests that important events are ideally framed by sanctifying practices that elevate intention and restrain disorder.
Seers standing around begin chanting auspicious mantras, while Tumburu, accompanied by Gandharvas, starts singing melodiously, marking the occasion with ritual recitation and celestial music.
