FAQs

This verse frames “Pravaha” as a technical designation whose etymology or cause is significant enough for Garuḍa to ask; it signals that names in the Purana often encode a being’s function, rank, or karmic role.

Indirectly: by discussing hierarchical status and specific designations, the text situates the after-death narrative within an ordered cosmology where beings and regions are classified—background needed to understand the soul’s post-mortem journey described elsewhere in the Preta Kanda.

Treat scriptural terms and ritual/cosmological labels carefully: understanding the precise meaning behind names and classifications helps practitioners perform Garuda Purana death rites and śrāddha-related duties with clarity and intention.
