Related Themes: Agni Purana 235 (lakshana and niti guidance around troop qualities)
It imparts nīti-based lakṣaṇa-vidyā: practical identification of a ‘śūra’ (valiant type) through observable behavioral and facial cues (knit brows, anger, quarrelsomeness, high spirits), useful for assessing people in governance and military contexts.
Beyond ritual and theology, the Agni Purana also catalogs applied knowledge like statecraft and human assessment; this verse functions like a compact typology of temperament for selecting or understanding warriors and passionate dispositions.
It cautions that valor and enthusiasm may coexist with anger and desire; recognizing these tendencies supports self-restraint (dama) and prudent leadership, reducing harmful conflict and its negative karmic consequences.
