FAQs

It teaches a stambhana (immobilization) application: a mantra sequence with bīja-syllables (Hrīṃ, Hūṃ, Pheṃ) and the exclamation Phaṭ, combined with yantra/mark inscription (mountain and trident symbols) and completion of japa to effect “mukha-stambhana” (stopping an adversary’s speech).

Beyond mythology, the Agni Purana catalogs applied ritual sciences (kalpa/tantra)—including mantra construction, japa procedure, and symbolic diagram/inscription practices—showing its wide coverage of practical religio-technical methods alongside dharma, polity, medicine, and arts.

Within a ritualist framework, stambhana is framed as a protective/controlling rite that channels fierce mantra-śakti; ethically, traditional dharma readings treat such acts as weighty and intention-dependent, urging restraint and alignment with protection rather than malice to avoid adverse karmic consequence.
