Agni Purana — Ayurveda, Shloka 10

Pañcāṅga-Rudra-vidhāna

The Fivefold Rudra Rite

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Rudra-vidya / Mantra-śāstra (Raudrādhyāya context)","secondary_vidya":"Stotra","practical_application":"Establishes mantra authority (Ārṣa status) and assigns ṛṣi for the Raudra chapter and specific triads—used in viniyoga statements before recitation.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Ārṣa status and ṛṣi assignment in the Raudrādhyāya (Prajāpati; Kutsa for three)","lookup_keywords":["Raudrādhyāya ārṣa","Prajāpati ṛṣi","Kutsa ṛṣi","tिसृणाम्","mantra authority"],"quick_summary":"Declares the Raudra chapter’s mantras as Ārṣa (seer-revealed) and specifies ṛṣi attribution: Prajāpati generally, and Kutsa for a set of three formulae/verses."}

Concept: Mantra-prayoga is grounded in recognized revelation-lineage (ṛṣi-paramparā); declaring Ārṣa status safeguards orthopraxy.

Application: In viniyoga, state ‘ṛṣiḥ Prajāpatiḥ’ (and ‘ṛṣiḥ Kutsaḥ’ for the specified triad) to align recitation with tradition.

Khanda Section: Rudra-vidya / Mantra-śāstra (Raudrādhyāya context)

Primary Rasa: śānta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

FAQs

It gives mantra-metadata: the classification as Ārṣa and the assignment of ṛṣi (seer) attributions—Prajāpati generally, and Kutsa specifically for a set of three formulas connected with the devas.

Beyond theology, it preserves practical ritual-technical indexing (ṛṣi attribution), a key feature of mantra-śāstra used for correct recitation, nyāsa, and viniyoga—showing the text’s compendium-like organization of liturgical details.

Correct ṛṣi-attribution supports proper mantra application and ritual correctness (yathāvidhi), traditionally held to safeguard efficacy and avoid doṣa (ritual fault), thereby aligning practice with intended purification and merit.
