FAQs

It gives a directional/mandala assignment of deity-classes (Devas, Aṅgirases, Aśvins, Bhṛgus, Maruts, Viśvedevas, Rudras) to specific regions/quarters, useful for constructing ritual maṇḍalas and invoking deities by direction.

Beyond narrative theology, it preserves a technical catalog of cosmological correspondences (deity-groups mapped onto quarters/regions), a hallmark of the Agni Purana’s compendium-style coverage of ritual science and astral/directional systems.

Correctly aligning invocations with their prescribed directions is treated as a means to harmonize ritual with cosmic order (ṛta), supporting purity, efficacy of offerings, and the intended religious merit of the rite.
