Related Themes: Agni Purana 33 (Pavitrārohaṇa; Śrīdhara-nitya-pūjā context); Agni Purana 34 (Homa-vidhi begins immediately after)
It prescribes the kautuka (ritual protective thread/amulet) to be worn/bound as part of pavitra-ārohaṇa—the consecratory act of placing the pavitra (sacred thread/garland) to secure auspiciousness and completion of the rite.
Beyond myth, the Agni Purana preserves practical liturgical micro-instructions—roles (ācārya), qualifications (year-long observance), ritual implements (kautuka, pavitra), and mantra closure—showing it functions as a manual for temple and domestic ceremonies.
Wearing the kautuka during pavitra-ārohaṇa is framed as ensuring ‘sampūrṇa-phala’—the full, undiminished merit and efficacy of the consecration—by ritually sealing the act with protection and reverential mantra (oṃ namaḥ).
