इत्य् आदिमहापुराणे आग्नेये कुशापमार्जनं नाम एकत्रिंशो ऽध्यायः अथ द्वातिंशो ऽध्यायः संस्कारकथनं अग्निर् उवाच निर्वाणादिषु दीक्षासु चत्त्वारिंशत्तथाष्ट च संस्कारान् कारयेद्धीमान् शृणुतान्यैः सुरो भवेत्

ity ādimahāpurāṇe āgneye kuśāpamārjanaṃ nāma ekatriṃśo 'dhyāyaḥ atha dvātiṃśo 'dhyāyaḥ saṃskārakathanaṃ agnir uvāca nirvāṇādiṣu dīkṣāsu cattvāriṃśattathāṣṭa ca saṃskārān kārayeddhīmān śṛṇutānyaiḥ suro bhavet

Demikianlah dalam Agni Purāṇa, Mahāpurāṇa yang purba, berakhir bab ke-31 bernama “Kuśāpamārjana (Penyucian dengan rumput kuśa)”. Kini dimulai bab ke-32, “Uraian Saṃskāra”. Agni bersabda: Dalam inisiasi seperti Nirvāṇa-dīkṣā dan lainnya, orang bijaksana hendaknya menyelenggarakan empat puluh delapan saṃskāra; dengarkanlah, dengan ini seseorang menjadi laksana dewa.
