Varāha
Consistency is the heart of vrata: discipline must not fluctuate with lunar phases or convenience.
Plan simple sattvic meals; keep the same rule in both fortnights; treat diet as part of worship, not mere nutrition.
Food-restraint mirrors cosmic restraint/order: by regulating intake, the practitioner ‘lightens’ the earth-body and aligns with Viṣṇu’s sustaining rhythm during the sacred season.
Post-homa prasāda-like simplicity: ghee as clarified essence offered/received; regulated eating as continuation of yajña in daily life.
Indriya-nigraha supporting sattva: disciplined diet reduces rajas/tamas, aiding contemplation and devotion (bhakti) as an inner yajña.
After the rite, consume simple saṃyāvaka with ghee; maintain the same dietary discipline even in kṛṣṇa-pakṣa throughout Cāturmāsya.
Observing niyama stabilizes vrata-phala and purity; breaking diet/discipline weakens merit and is treated as vrata-bhaṅga (loss of intended fruit).
Purification, steadiness of mind, and completion of the observance with full merit.
Varāha Purāṇa 56.56.7 (month-wise foods); Varāha Purāṇa 56.56.8-9 (concluding gifts/adoration)
It reflects a Purāṇic codification of seasonal vow-practice (cāturmāsya), emphasizing regulated diet and continuity of observance across lunar fortnights—useful for tracing the development of vrata norms in early medieval Sanskrit literature.
No specific geographic location is named in this verse; it concerns a temporal-ritual framework (cāturmāsya and kṛṣṇa-pakṣa) rather than sacred geography.
The instruction centers on disciplined, consistent dietary conduct as part of a time-bound observance: maintaining the same regulated practice even during the kṛṣṇa-pakṣa, underscoring steadiness and restraint.
