Anukramaṇikā Chapter
शुभाशुभस्य कथनं शुभकर्मफलोदयम् ॥ लोभनं पुरुषस्यापि निमेराख्यानमद्भुतम्
śubhāśubhasya kathanaṃ śubhakarmaphalodayam || lobhanaṃ puruṣasyāpi nimerākhyānam adbhutam
अच्छे और बुरे काम दोनों की बात है। अच्छे करम का फल कैसे मिलता है, वो भी है। किसी इंसान को कैसे अपनी तरफ करते हैं, यह भी बताया। और निमि की कहानी बहुत अजब है।
Varāha (default narrative instructor)
Distinguish auspicious/inauspicious conduct and understand that wholesome karma ripens into beneficial results; exempla (Nimi) are used to persuade the listener toward dharma.
Good actions yield शुभकर्मफलोदय (rise of meritorious fruits); succumbing to लोभ (enticement/greed) leads toward inauspicious outcomes (implied).
Moral discernment (viveka) and karmic causality: actions inevitably mature into corresponding results; narrative exempla function as upāya (pedagogical means).
Evaluate motives (especially greed/enticement), choose śubha-karman, and use scriptural exempla (like Nimi) as mirrors for self-correction.
Varāha Purāṇa 218 (Anukramaṇikā): mentions Nimi-ākhyāna as a listed narrative unit
It preserves a table-of-contents snapshot of ethical and narrative materials, indicating how Purāṇic compilers organized doctrine alongside exemplary stories.
No explicit place-name appears here; the verse points to themes and a character (Nimi) rather than a site.
It distinguishes beneficial vs. harmful conduct and emphasizes that good actions yield discernible results.
