The Origin of Fire and the Liturgical Names of Agni
dhmā prapūraṇaśabdo ya idhmā nāma prakīrtyate | pūritasyāgatiryena tenedhmastvaṁ bhaviṣyasi || 18.26 ||
Varāha
It exemplifies a common Purāṇic technique—nāmavyutpatti—where names are explained through sound-based or semantic derivations, reflecting premodern Sanskrit philological practices used to structure narrative and memory.
No geographic location is named in this verse; it is focused on lexical/etymological explanation rather than sacred geography.
The verse does not present a direct ethical injunction; its primary function is linguistic—explaining a name through an associated meaning (“filling” and “arrival/attainment”).
