The Merit of Seeing Mathurā’s Guardian-Deity and a Catalog of Mathurā’s Sacred Geography
mathurāyāstu māhātmyaṃ te yānti paramaṃ padam || kulāni te tārayanti dve śate viṃśayor dvayoḥ ||
Varāha
It preserves a common Purāṇic motif: merit is framed as extending beyond the individual to kinship groups, reflecting social imaginaries of lineage and collective well-being.
Mathurā is the focal place whose māhātmya is said to yield elevated outcomes for participants.
It encourages actions understood as beneficial not only personally but also socially—supporting communal continuity through study, remembrance, and responsible engagement with heritage.
