Recitation with translationMandukya Upanishad 12

amātraś caturtho 'vyavahāryaḥ prapañcopaśamaḥ śivo 'dvaita evam oṅkāra ātmā eva saṃviśaty ātmanātmānaṃ ya evaṃ veda ||12||

The Fourth is without mora, not an object of transaction, the cessation of phenomenal expansion, auspicious, non-dual. Thus the Oṃkāra is the Self indeed. He enters the Self by the Self—whoever thus knows.

Central concept
Turīya (the Fourth), amātra (soundless), prapañcopaśama (cessation of phenomenalization), Advaita (non-duality)
The mahavakyas
Directly aligned with ‘Ayam Ātmā Brahma’ (Māṇḍūkya’s central mahāvākya): Oṃ is declared to be Ātman; Turīya is non-dual Brahman/Ātman beyond the three states.
Veda
Atharva
Shakha
Atharva-veda (traditionally associated with the Atharvaṇic corpus; specific śākhā not securely attested for Māṇḍūkya)
Chandas

Yoga and practice

Meditation on the ‘soundless’ after Oṃ (nāda→nāda-anta): rest in the silence that remains when A-U-M subside; cultivate sākṣī-bhāva (witnesshood) across waking/dream/deep sleep; use neti-neti toward the ‘avyavahārya’ (non-objectifiable) Self; avoid mistaking trance/blankness for Turīya—recognize ever-present awareness.
